Local District 8

Local District 8, located in the South Bay of Los Angeles County, serves the communities of Carson, Gardena, Harbor City, Lomita, Los Angeles, San Pedro, Torrance, and Wilmington. Our students encompass a diversified population which totals approximately 75,000. They attend 56 elementary schools, one K-8 span school, ten middle schools, six comprehensive high schools, two middle college high schools, six continuation high schools, one community day school, two Special Education centers, three Community Adult Schools, and ten Early Education Centers.

In addition, many of our high schools have won city and state athletic competitions such as football and tennis.

Parents and community members are vital partners in the education of our students and are provided with numerous opportunities to be actively involved. At the school site, parents can volunteer, join PTSA, serve on Title I or Bilingual advisory committees, or School Site Advisory Councils. Local District 8 also provides parents and community members with opportunities to be involved in the Local District Parent Community Advisory Council (LDPCAC), Council of Councils, CEAC/ELAC, and PHBAO.

We are proud of our students and their accomplishments, but we acknowledge that there are areas of needed improvement. Local District 8 is committed to continuing and improving collaborative partnerships with all of our stakeholders - our parents, teachers, administrators, and community members. Together, we will strive to provide an educational environment that eliminates the achievement gap, raises student achievement for all students, and provides outstanding instruction in every classroom in Local District 8.
